Diwali is one of the most important festivals of India. Diwali is celebrated because of belief in the return of Lord Ram to his home Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. People of Ayodhya light the city with Lightening lamps and Diyas (Clay Lamps) and welcomed Rama, Sita, and Lakshman.

 

Diwali is also a symbol of victory of Light over Darkness and Good over evil and most important it is a symbol of Goddess Laxmi coming Home. People worship Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesh on the day of Diwali coz it believes that it brings Wealth and Prosperity.

DHANTERAS

          Dhanteras Puja Mahurat = 18:05 to 20:01

           Duration = 1 Hour 55 Mins.

 

 

Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi is the first day of five days of Diwali celebrations. On the Day of Dhanteras, Lord Dhanwantari came out of the ocean along with the God of wealth Lord Kubera. And he is worshipped on this auspicious day of Trayodashi. On Dhanteras Lakshmi puja should be done after sunset.  It is the best time for Dhanteras Puja 2018.

 

On this day people clean and decorate their homes and Worship for wealth. Goddess Laxmi is worshipped on Dhanteras and there is a tradition of purchasing an expensive thing mainly Gold or Silver.

 

 

     CHOTI DIWALI OR ABHYANGA SNAN

The second day of Diwali is known as Narak Chaturdasi or Abhyang snan, on this day Lord Krishna defeated the evil demon Narakasur and made the people free from his terror. There is one more belief that people who do snan with sesame oil or til oil ubtan on Abhyang snan muhurt can avoid going to Narak. Abhyang snan and Lakshmi puja might be on the same day or a day before Diwali.

 

On Choti, Diwali people wake up early in the morning and massage with oil before the bath to relieve the tiredness and rest so that they can celebrate the Diwali with full energy and excitement. People wear new clothes on this day and keep their house clean and decorated, pray, light diyas and burn a small number of firecrackers.

 

Narak Chaturdashi is also known as Choti Diwali, Roop Chaudas, or Roop Chaturdashi.

Laxmi Puja is the third and main day of Diwali Celebration. On the day of Deepavali people should get up early in the morning and worship their family gods. Devotees also observe a day-long fast on that day and only broke after they perform Lakshmi puja in the evening. On this day Goddess Laxmi is believed to enter homes of the people and blessed them with good luck, wealth and prosperity. Not only Hindu’s people of any religion in India decorate their house lights the beautiful diyas and Candles. People decorate their home and offices with Marigold flowers and mango and banana leaves. You can also keep mangalik Kalash with unpeeled coconut on both sides of the main entrance of your house.

 

 

Chopda Puja

 

  Chopda puja is also a part of Diwali Puja. People who are an entrepreneur, own their family businesses, Traders, etc who successfully managed their business are follows traditions. Even, today in modern India Businessmen’s follows religious traditions to seek blessings from their deities.

 

Mostly, Gujarati families are famous to perform traditional chopda puja to make their coming year profitable. In Gujarat, the traditional accounting books are known as chopada or chopda. So, they draw the symbol of om, swastika and shubh labh on their account books. But nowadays in the era of computers, business requires Internet and laptops to manage their financial work. So, the Businessmen use the laptop as chopda and perform puja in front of their deity and draw SHUBH LABH & SWASTIKA on Laptop for good luck and wealth.

On this day, Goverdhan Puja is performed, Thousands of years ago Lord Krishna defeated Lord Indra by lifting Goverdhan Mountain. From then on, every Hindu worship Goverdhan. 

 

 

BHAI DHOOJ

Bhai Dooj Tika Muhurat = 13:09 to 15:17

 

Duration = 2 Hours 8 Mins

 

The fifth and the last day of the Diwali Celebration is Bhai Dooj. This is performed after the 2 days of Main Diwali. According to a story, the Lord of Death (Yamraj) visited his sister Yamuna on this day after a long time. She welcomed his brother to Aarti and tilak ceremony, Yamraj declared on that day that whoever visits his sister on this day will get relief from all sins. Sisters also pray for the long and prosperous life of her brothers. Brothers offer gifts to their sisters. Bhai Dooj is also known as Bhaiya Dooj, Bhau Beej, and Bhathru Dwithiya.
